Emergency Response: Westbound John Hansen Highway for an Overturned Tractor-TrailerAt approximately 1000 hours Chief 19 (Havens) alerted Canteen 39 to proceed for the overturned truck with a priority 4 driver trapped on westbound Route 50 westbound at Route 197. Canteen 39 was requested by Battalion Chief 002. The unit went on-scene at approximately 1015 hours with 2 personnel (Amy and Glenn Locker). Canteen 39 remained on scene providing beverages, snacks and towels to the crews of E839, A839, squad 818, E828, Hazmat 830, A830, Anne Arundel squad 7, Chief 7, Volunteer Operations Chief McClelland and several state troopers and highway administration personnel until approximately 1400 hours. We also would like to give special thanks to the crew of Brush 39, Volunteer Firefighters Ray Wingo and Travis Murdock, for delivering a much-needed supply of ice to the scene. We are glad we had the opportunity to help out with this tragic accident, and our prayers go out to the truck driver and his family.
Community Event: City of Bowie Back to School BashOn Saturday August 16th the Back To School Bash was held at the City of Bowie Gymnasium from 1000 to 1300. The Auxiliary had a table set up with fire safety information, fire hats, coloring books, rulers, pens and pencils. In attendance were Auxiliary members George Amyx, Michelle Goodier, Amy and Glen Locker, and Jeff Nigro; Firefighter/EMT Marty Goodier; and Junior members Nichole Goodier and Mary Locker. Units on-hand include the Special Events Ambulance, Canteen 39, and Support 39.
Community Event: National Night Out at Allen's PondThe Bowie VFD was happy to be invited by the Bowie Police Department to attend the National Night Out Against Crime on Tuesday, August 5. Canteen 39 and Support 39 accompanied Chief 19 (Havens) and the members of Companies 39 and 43 to Allen's Pond. The Auxiliary gave out fire hats, pencils, pens, and coloring books to the kids. Adults were given safety information and tours of the Auxiliary units. Several folks expressed strong interest in joining the Auxiliary. We enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with local families, businessmen, and elected officials from the City of Bowie. We were also able to share table space with several local Community Emergency Response Team members so that they could distribute information about that valuable disaster-preparedness program. Michelle Goodier, Amy Locker, and our junior members staffed Support 39, while George Amyx, Gordon Curtis, and Glenn Locker staffed Canteen 39.
Fire Response: 15000 Block of Peyton CourtAt about 1900 on Saturday August 2 a working fire dispatch was issued for a single family home on Peyton Court in Company 43's first due. John Cole and Glenn Locker proceeded to the scene in Canteen 39, arriving on-scene at about 2140. Approximately four (4) cases of water were distributed to personnel, and additional water was delivered to the rehabilitation sector. Canteen 39 returned to quarters at 2330.

Fire Response: Six FlagsWednesday night (July 30) at 1900 hours, George Amyx, Lloyd Bass, Michelle Goodier, and Amy Locker responded in Canteen 39 to the Haunted House fire at Six Flags. Four cases of water and several bags of popcorn were distributed to firefighters, investigators, and other personnel on the scene. The canteen returned to quarters at approximately 2230.
Upcoming Event: National Night OutWe have been invited to participate in the National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5th from 1800 to 2000 at Allen Pond. All operational and auxiliary members should meet at their station by 1700. The city would like us in place and set-up by 1730 prior to the event.
Emergency Response: Eastbound John Hansen Highway for an Overturned Tractor TrailerOn July 17, 2008 at approximately 1015 the Auxiliary was requested to respond to a tractor trailer overturn accident on John Hanson Highway by Chief Havens (19). Lloyd Bass responded immediately to the scene with Canteen 39, arriving at 1030. Auxiliary member George Amyx arrived with Chief Havens at about 1130. Over the four hour duration of the incident approximately five cases of water and one large box of crackers were dispensed. Canteen 39 returned to quarters at 1430 hours.
July Auxiliary Meeting Moved to July 14Please note that the monthly Auxiliary meeting has been moved and will be held Monday, July 14 at Company 39 at 19:30.
Bowie Pays Final Respects to Chief Victor SizeThe Auxiliary was proud to provide canteen services for the interment of Chief Victor Size, who was laid to rest July 7, 2008. Lloyd Bass and firefighter Marty Goodier took Canteen 39 to Lakemont Cemetery, where they distributed approximately 6 cases of water to Chief Size's friends, family, and comrades. Bowie was also represented by Engine 392, Chief 39A (Daly), and Tower 43. Chief Victor Size passed away last week after a battle with cancer. Chief Size was serving his second term as Chief of the United Communities Volunteer Fire Department in Queen Anne's County, MD, and was a life member and former Chief of the Marlboro Volunteer Fire Department (Company 20) in Prince George's County, MD.
