Events 2009
The Bowie Volunteer Fire Department participated in the City of Bowie's Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 18, 2009. Fire extinguisher training was provided, educational materials were distributed, and equipment was displayed.Several pieces of apparatus were on-hand, including Auxiliary 19, Canteen 39, Engines 192 and 432, the Special Events Ambulance, and Utility 49 with the Mobile Teaching Lab. Attendees included Auxiliary members Glenn Locker, Amy Locker, Wendi Howard, and Michelle Goodier and operation members included firefighter (FF) Ray Wingo, Deputy Chief Jason Bloom, Assistant Chief Jonathan Howard, Lt. Brandy Kreitzer, and FF Tevin Williams. Career staff from Station 43 also were on-hand to interact with the citizens and provide additional safety information.

Wednesday April 29, Members of the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department & Auxiliary participated in Baskin-Robbins 31 cent ice cream night to support the National Volunteer Fire Council.

On Saturday, March 28, the Bowie Baysox held their 10th annual Family FunFest at Prince George's Stadium.

On Saturday, May 16, members Ray Wingo and Travis Murdoch took an engine to the open house at Kenilworth elementary for show-and-tell from 1000 to 1500. The career crew from Station 39 (Belair) were also in attendance, staffing the in-service engine and the ambulance until 1330, and enjoyed playing with the children and talking with their families. Lots of fun was had by all.

On the evening of Saturday 1/24/09 President Jonathan Bigony, Chief Lee Havens, Assistant Chief Jonathan Howard, Auxiliary Chair Amy Locker, and several members of The Bowie Volunteer Fire Department attended The Public Safety Recognition Awards dinner at the Knights of Columbus Sacred Heart Council #2577 in Bowie.

The Department was invited by the Bowie Police Department to participate in the National Night Out at Allen Pond once again. Apparatus participating included Auxiliary 19, Canteen 39, Engine 391, and Utility 39 with the Mobile Teaching Lab. Chief 19 (Havens) also attended.
